ITFS
The international telephone Numbering Plan (ITFS) is a numbering scheme that allocates telephone numbers to subscribers and businesses worldwide. The scheme is administered by the International Telecommunication Union and was first implemented in 1947.
The ITFS is overseen by the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) and is used by telephone networks in over 190 countries. The ITFS provides a consistent way for telephone networks to route calls between countries and simplifies the process of adding new numbers to the numbering plan. The ITFS consists of a series of three-digit country codes the USA has 986 area code, and 209 area code which is used to identify the country of origin for each call.
How does an ITFS number work?
The person calling does not have to pay for the call, but the subscriber to the international free service will be charged for the incoming calls. An ITFS Number forwards international calls. An ITFS number can forward calls to other countries through public switched telephone networks or Voice Over Internet Protocol.
The international toll-free number is very useful for customer service and sales. Let’s imagine that a US-based business has customers located in China. This would allow the business to get a China ITFS telephone number. Customers in China can dial the number to get an answer.
ITFS in Business:
ITFS numbers are assigned by individual country telecommunications regulators. ITFS numbers are typically seven or eight digits long and begin with the country code of the country where the customer service center is located.
